Genworth Life was renamed a few years ago when it was know as First Colony Life and GE Capital Assurance.  The founding company dates back to 1871 when it was known as The Life Insurance Company of Virginia.  Below are a few highlights of this very well respected life insurance carrier.

    * 1871: Wrote first policy as Life of Virginia

    * 1955: Sold first fixed-life policy through an independent brokerage

    * 1974: Started providing payment protection insurance in Europe

    * 1977: Initiated long term care insurance practice

    * 1980: Wrote first mortgage insurance policy

    * 1983: Began providing universal life products
